my employer dropped my group health insurance and told me to

My employer stopped paying for my group health insurance without telling me. My insurance company said I had not been covered for 6 months. He finally told me he has dropped my group health insurance and told me to get private insurance and he would pay for it. My employer is adding $450.00 each month, which is the amount of my new insurance premium)to my paycheck listed as a "bonus" and It is being added into my wages and taxed. Is this legal? What should I do?

Yes, if your employer is paying premiums on your individual insurance, it would be considered as salary or wages.

Yes, if it's listed as "bonus" and added to your wages, then it will be taxable income. Under the group health plan it would have been possible for him to get your premiums a payroll deduction prior to the tax calculation. Did he explain the reason for doing this with you?
