:o :?: Hello,
I am new to this computer, and blogs, etc. But I am having so much trouble with this insurance co., had it for 20 years and not a claim, not a ticket, not anything, then bam. I found this blog and everyone seemed to be having some of the same problems. I have filed with the Calfiornia Bureaur of Insurance, they are sending them a rebuttal letter, in the meantime they have my file listed as closed online, I have not received anything saying it is closed even when out of the blue we received the pink slip in our names. Yesterday we resceived this funky copy you cant read that also has an attached letter that reads we must surrender the title and plates and have all these inspections, it is a Ford F150 4x4 1999, 140,000 miles, low fo rits age, it came from the factory with all factory options, there is nothing wrong with it. my son who is on the policy, was driving it and we had snow, our power had been out for days, and our phone had just gone out, so he went down the street to check on an 80 year old man we know and see if his phone was working. mind you my son is my caregiver, I am legally disabled and this is our only vehicle. He was on the way home and was gooing maybe 2 miles an hour literally, the road was sort of one lane but that was clear of most snow, there is alot of people here who commute to work, and they took our snow plow as we hadn't needed it in several years. Cutbacks. he hit an icy spot and the truck started to slide, he knew to ride it out and manage to keep it from going totally out of control, but there was a small oak tree on his side and the truck just slide into it and like in slow motion as he was going so slow raked down the side and stopped on the bumper. He got it to the shop a few days later, as the insurance co told him to just drive it as it is drivable and tell a cop if you are stopped you are on your way to the shop. OK. Even the shop guy said he must have been going very slow. It is all cosmetic. Not a light was crunched, just the side of the truck. My son has put on a new mirror, and replaced the passenger door, the driver door still needs to be replaced, but mow tof the other dents he has pushed out it hardly looks like it ws that bad ever. I don't understand why they totaled it as the valure on these is high, around 10,000 or more in the condition ours was in, we were the second owners, they are hard to find. I have been looking, it is also a supercrew, it has the passenger doors that open backwards but cant open unless the front door is opened for kids safety, and it is made for four wheeling and road. I thought when you bought it back or kept it they took care of the title, we already have it. And they paid for any cost. I have been flat out lied to, I get calls from them saying they are from one dept. and they are not. My coverage included an endorsement, new car endorsement, I wouldn't need gap, it would be a waste and they don't sell gap as you dot need it, but then you read the fine print on the endorsement that they only send you when you question it, says the vehicle has to be a one owner, you, under 35000 miles, i believe or less, under 3 months old, basicly worthless there are so many restrictions, here I wanted to have good insurance as this was a nice vehicle and i wanted it to be fixed or replaced if anything happened to it. They wont even give me what it cost to fix it. The shop appraiser even doesn't understand why they are total lossing it as he has been looking for a vehicle just like this one and the prices are over 10,000. He could get one in our condition now for around 7000 to 8000 and fix it up but just too much. And with it all being cosmetic it is just not right. I would appreciate any advice or commnets you have to give/

So what is the rest of this story? Do you even know how much this vehicle is worth? (it's not anywhere near $10,000, unless you can provide more information on options) What numbers has the insurance company given you to support the reason for totalling it? Have you researched similar vehicles in your area for their prices? What help has the shop given you besides that they can't figure out why it's being totalled? What is the amount of the estimate the insurer wrote?
I thought when you bought it back or kept it they took care of the title, we already have it.
When you retain salvage, the title becomes a salvage title. You would then have to get it inspected (or whatever your state requires) to make it safe for the road.
My son has put on a new mirror, and replaced the passenger door, the driver door still needs to be replaced, but mow tof the other dents he has pushed out it hardly looks like it ws that bad ever.
So.....you ended up retaining the salvage or was this pre accident?
And they paid for any cost.
If you retained the salvage, any costs are your responsibility
I have been flat out lied to
Come on now
but then you read the fine print on the endorsement that they only send you when you question it
No, that fine print would also be in your policy
They wont even give me what it cost to fix it.
Obviously, the cost to repair it, is greater than the value. You say that the damage is all cosemetic, I doubt that (your description of the damage is very vague) if it is, it would not be exceeding the vehicles value.
