Can a chancellor legally remove a primary beneficiary from a life ins. policy and change the beneficiary to the estate? Everything I'm readint states that an ex-spouse isn't automatically removed as the beneficiary except in the state of N.J. My ex changed his 401K plan to show his Mom as the bene. but left me as the beneficiary on his life insurance policy. The chancellor removed me as the beneficiary and changed the bene. as the estate. The chancellor didn't remove my mother-in-law's name from the 401K and change that to the estate. I've spoken with a few attorneys in the area and they have a conflict of interest and the other attorneys said they weren't interested. I guess they don't want to challenge the chancellor. What can I do?

Are you sure that there was no beneficiary change mentioned in the divorce decree?
It might just be in a way that your mother-in-law or someone else now holds the policy proceeds in a trust. Just check it out!
