Have you called the mortgage company and asked them this question? Personally, I usually start with the obvious.

Did you talk to your mortgage company BEFORE you sent them the draft? Or did you send it assuming they would endorce it and send it back? If the latter, bad move. As Tcope said, call them...another obvious question...why didn't you have the adjuster make the draft to you and the roofer instead?

A carrier I worked for would put the mortgage company on the check...no matter the dollar amount. It could have been $2.00 paid and if there was a mortgage company on the risk they were going to be on the check.

This almost always is the case for me as well for some carriers.

It was a small mutual company that had been hit twice with double payments. The way they looked at is that they were issuing the check the correct way since the mortgage company was an additional insured.

I agree, when it come right down to it, they can't be called out on it, it's just a pain in the butt for the insured, to get that endorcement and the money to the vendor...I figured they'd been hit a time or two. Most carriers (that I know or have worked for) will allow the vendor on the draft in place of the lein holder..but some of course won't geeeeeeeze what a pain..
