Usually....to get Auto Insurance, the company needs the information for the car (VIN number, Mileage, Year of the car, etc.). Or....am I misunderstanding your question?

No, you should be covered under their insurance. You cannot insure something without an insurable interest. No car, no insurable interest, no car insurance.

Yes, you can obtain a non-owners policy. From what I hear here, it's difficult to find a company that offers this type of policy.

It's a liability policy to cover _you_, when driving someone else's vehicle. The coverage is usually secondary to the owners liability coverage.

So.........you actually have to have a car (in your name, somehow) to get Insurance? Tell me if I'm correct on this: if your friend has her/his name on the Title of a car and the friend asks you to get Insurance on it, you can't do that unless YOUR name is on the car (which would make sense to me)?
