Attempting to add coverage for an accident that already happened is darn close to Insurance fraud which, as the name imples, is illegal. The factor that would make it completely illegal would be to tell your insurance company that you had the accident after you added the coverage. Insurance companies are leary of claims that happen right after coverage is added. If we could all buy insurance only after we had accidents it would cost much more to say the least!
Do you know who the lady who hit you is? Does she have insurance? If so file a claim with her company. Did she get a ticket for running the stop? Did she run? Hit and runs are hard to get paid on. I assume you have Liability only coverage. If you know the person who hit you and they don't have insurance you may be able to get your car fixed and paid for on your policy's uninsured motorist coverage.
You could sue this lady for damaging your car.
Good Luck!
