Are you working out of your home alone, or out of an agency with other agents and support systems?
It depends on how many people you prospect. Prospect only one person and the realistic answer is none or one. Prospect two people and the answer is none, one, or two. Most of us, without much experience, might expect to set three appointments out of ten contacts, and close two sales out of three. With experience, we'll still set three appointments out of ten contacts, but close 5 out of 6 or better.
The bigger question is, do you know your product(s)? With no product knowledge, the answer is going to be closer to none than one.
Secondly, what sales training have you had?
The clerks, er, sales associates, at Macy's, or Target, or most other retailers receive almost no sales training, so it's not unexpected when they ask questions that invite only yes or no answers.
"Hi, can I help you find something?"
"No, I'm just looking."
Compare that to the way a professionally trained sales person would make a first contact in the same place:
"Hi, my name is Max, and I work in this department. If you need any help finding anything, just come and get me."
And as I turn to leave, "Excuse me, Max, but do you have this in my size in blue?"
"Did you want it in blue?"
"No, actually, I would prefer it in purple."
"We have it in three shades of purple, would you prefer light, medium, or dark?"
Although your question is logical, it is impossible to answer in a meaningful way.
