I recently received a ticket for parking a vehicle in my yard for expired license plates. Do I have to register a vehicle I'm not using currently? State of Michigan.

On personal property? I am not aware in any state that you could recieve a ticket for that unless it was parked on a public street. If you are storing it, why don't you have it the garage or something? If you are storing it, you wouldn't have to register it if you were not driving it. How did you wind up getting a ticket?

It appears, after muddling through Michigan's DMV site, that all vehicles that meet this definition must be currently titled, registered and tagged:
In Michigan, motor vehicles, trailer coaches, trailers weighing 2,500 pounds or more empty, off-road vehicles, pickup campers, and watercraft 20 feet and over or with a permanently affixed engine must be titled.
All motor vehicles and trailers used on Michigan roads must be registered and display valid license plates. A registration shows the plate number and what vehicle that plate is registered to. To register a motor vehicle, provide either the previous registration or proof of insurance and ownership documents.
Confusing...we all know the difference between "titling" and "registration " but I can't find anything that refers specifically to your situation.
I would agree- get ahold of DMV and see what's up. I also agree that I don't know how they can give you a ticket unless the car is parked either illegally on the street, or the fact that some states don't allow the vehicle to be "stored" on the street and require that it be moved upon occasion, like every 10 days or so.

Thank you for the replies. Yes it was on my personal property and backed in no less. However the backyard isn't fenced and it's along the ailey- but fully in my yard. What is the difference between "titling" and "registering". I understand that in Michigan you have to have insurance to register - now why would I insure a car I am storing!? Anything to get more money out of us!
