Collision involving Uturn and Improper Median Use

I was hit by a driver making a Uturn across my lane as I was coming up to an intersection to turn left. The other driver was stopped in traffic and decided to make a Uturn to go another route. As I was coming up to the intersection, in what I thought was the beginning of the left-hand turn lane, the other driver made a U-turn in front of me. I tried to slow down, and I swerved into the opposite lanes (which were clear) in order to try to avoid the collision. I swerved all the way over to the sidewalk of the opposite direction, but the driver still hit me in her Uturn. My passenger doors, front and back were hit. Both of us got tickets since the driver told the police I was not in the left hand lane, but the center lane when we hit (how did the other driver know where I was if she didn't see me until colliding with me?). We did move our cars after the collision because we were in the middle of traffic. The police did not know what happened, so he issued us both citations and court dates. I was cited for improper median use (driving in center lane) and she was cited for her Uturn. After the accident, I did look again at the road markings, and if I had been traveling in the center lane, the collision still happened where there was a left-hand turn lane. Also, if I had been trying to turn left into the strip mall before the intersection, my car would have been in the exact same place and I would have been hit in that instance too. Was I at fault?

Depends on _many_ factors... a more clear idea of what happen (for example... in my experience both vehicles were initially travelling the opposite direction on the same road. This is something that you are not clear about), what the statements are (exactly) from _both_ drivers (for example, how far were you driving on this middle lane, how fast were you going, where did you want to turn, when did you first see the the other vehicle, to the other person... same questions, etc), would need to see the area where the accident happened, etc.

These are only a few of the answers that would need to be known in order to better understand liability. Then we'd also need to know what state the accident happened in to determine how negligence would affect the claim. We'd also need to know the disposition of both citations.

There is just no way to tell from this limited information.
