i`m from nc i have a whole life ins policy it has a rider on

my whole life policy has a rider on it for life ins on my exwife about $60.000 i`m the beneficary been divorced four 8 years.i asked the agent and a lawery if i could leave it the way it was they both said i could.my wife doesn`t know because i pay the premium every month.is the agent and lawery telling me the truth? will the insurance co try not to pay me if she was to passaway?

Yes, it's the truth. Keep the policy, keep paying the premiums, and you can still get the death benefit if she passes away, the policy's in force and the death is covered. Certain states have laws that invalidate certain things dealing with life insurance after a divorce, but I have a hunch that your attorney and agent are on target.

Insurable interest is only required at issue of the policy. As long as the policy is in force (or in this case the rider on the policy) when your wife dies, a death benefit will be paid to whomever the named beneficiary is.
