If payment is made on pip, does that reduce bi payment?

I was hit by a drunk driver without insurance. My uninsured coverage is picking up the claim. I also have pip which I am using for med coverage. The insurance company is making an offer for bodily injury minus my pip. I thought those coverage's were separate. Please advise.

Depends on the state and if PIP has any type of recovery rights.

Look at it this way... treat the UMBI claim as if it were the other person's carrier. Would your insurance company be able to collect from them for the amount they paid under PIP?

If your injuries are being covered with your personal medical insurance, the value of those bills may be recovered from the PIP or BI payments you receive from an auto policy under the principle of subrogation.
