My husband recently died. Upon checking on the life insurance policy, I found that he had never changed the beneficiary of his first wife. Is there anything I can do?

Very sorry for your loss, but no, unless the first wife has predeceased your husband, she is entitled to the proceeds. If she is still alive, it's possible she might be willing to share the proceeds, but it would be her call, not yours or anyone else's.
Unfortunately, the only guidance the insurance company can accept is from the policyowner prior to the death of the insured. They must follow the beneficiary designation last recorded prior to the insured's death.
