Progressive Auto Can I be reimbursed???

by shema1999 » Thu May 20, 2010 06:37 pm

After purchasing Progressive Auto Insurance online and stating that I don't want the other licensed (and covered by their own car insurance-my sister and brother in law) on my policy, that I want to pay my premiums direct pay from my bank account, the company sent me a letter stating that if I also did'nt sign and mail this exception to my policy that they would go ahead and charge me for them anyway. The address of the house I'm living in was in the process of being swithed froma rural rte to a house address at this time. I recieved the letter 2 months later and they had already taken 2 months of extra money (in excess of $300) out of ny bank account causing me to be overdrawan with all of the penalty fees that go with it. The company had my email address and my phone # and I never heard from them. I then went to Kinko's and faxed the signed letter. Now, it's a new month and they once again sucked the "extra" money from my account. I just called them and they said that since they never received that fax (I was actually speaking to a Progressive agent from Kinkos when I sent it last month), That they cannot reimburse the money. This is crazy! Do I have any recourse at all??? This is all Pennsylvania. I am once again on my way to Kinko's. I make the minimum wage and this is killing me.

Right, and they have every right to do this..What they are saying is either 'exclude' your sister and brother in law from your policy, or cover them..pick one..you can't have it both ways...remembering ALWAYS that if you exclude them they can NEVER drive your car NEVER EVER!

Ok, the two months that they withdrew from your acct because your addressed changed, is on you for sure. You'd have had two bank statement (minimally) in that amount of time, and you gave them the address, and that's the one they sent it to. I'd figure that money gone...They only have to send any correspondence to your last known address, which apparently is what they did.

If you had a person on the phone, from Progressive, when you faxed it, did that person not say, 'ok have your fax', or 'didn't get it?' Do you have that person's name? I'm assuming you called the 800#, if that's the case they record EVERY conversation that comes in, and keep those conversations, forever...Call them back, ask them to pull the tapes of that conversation, (you'll need the date and time, maybe the number you called from not sure if they can trace it that way or not)...anyway, tell them that you told the person you were faxing the exclusion, and that they were to call you if they didn't receive it (I assume that was part of the conversation?) Or did you think to maybe call back the next day to make sure that they had it? Or get on line and check?

That they cannot reimburse the money

I can understand their position, they notified you, told you they would do this if you didn't exclude them..they didn't receive it, so they charged you, (I know you didn't get it but they sent it to where you told them to send your mail :( )

Actually. This is crazy! Do I have any recourse at all??? This is all Pennsylvania. I am once again on my way to Kinko's. I make the minimum wage and this is killing me

I agree, and am very sorry this happened. I'd most certainly call them and/or check my policy to see that this is taken care of now..I'd further call them to pull that tape of the prior conversation..well, maybe you'd better tell us what it was..if the conversation will help you, then I'd have them pull it if not..this is one of those big life lessons, that cost alot, but teach a valueable thing. You ALWAYS follow up on anything that is faxed..(unless you got a fax received receipt), and you stay on top of your checking account, minimally monthly.

Darn! Those money-sucking insurance companies are at it again?

Another reason to use an insurance agent rather than the "do it yourself" route when one is inexperienced in the ways of insurance, as most folks are. Progressive runs its TV ads promoting "You name the price" which is all BS, but obviously brings the clients to their website.

It's always been that way. When you decide what coverage you want, they tell you how much it will cost. It's not like, "I only want to pay $300 every 6 months and I want $300,000 liability coverage," expecting them to say, "For you? Sure, anything you want."

As for problems with the Post Office . . . well, you're dealing with the government. Enough said.

I could not agree more!
