my friend needs to be compensated should she sue me

On 3-5-09 my friend and I were hit head on. I was driving under the speed limit due to icy conditions in a large tahoe suv. After hitting an icy patch, the oncoming jeep was speeding out of control and hit my car pushing it back 10 feet. The other driver walked away while both my friend and I spent a month in the hospital. Now over a year later I am still in therapy 3 times a week. I realize my friend too will always suffer from her injuries and no amount of therapy will help her. She had to be moved to another hospital two days after the accident and then almost died twice on life support. She just turned 60 and her husband is older and now has to do everything for her.
She has been offered 245,000 dollars but is that enough? Her bills are over 280,000 which have been paid by my insurance, uninsured motorist and various other insurances. If she sues me is she likely to get more compensation?
Thank you

I'm so terribly sorry, it sounds like you've both (along with your familys) suffered a lot.

Wait a second here...

Her bills are over 280,000 which have been paid by my insurance, uninsured motorist and various other insurances

The driver that hit you was uninsured? What are your UM limits? Did she also own a vehicle? Does your state allow stacking? I can't imagine that they would pay ANYTHING out on your UM until they settled...maybe your PIP has paid? What state are you in?

If she sues me is she likely to get more compensation?

Now I'm really confused...were you at fault for this accident? Why would she sue you? Do you have an umbrella policy, are you VERY wealthy? We need to know the answers to some of these questions to help you..

That statement does not appear to be accurate anyway. UM would not be paying medical bills as they were incurred... it would only be paid as a one time, lump sum payment. I don't know of any state offering 1st party PIP coverage to that extent other then Michigan.
