We have been [racticing this tree trimming business here in Hawaii for about 5 years now, we have a GE license, but no commercial or contractors license. My husband just does this as a side profession. In past we have use liability waivers when working for companies but now they are requiring us to have insurance with 1,000,000 coverage and they did mention workers comp because we ill have a few family members present at this particular job, we need a quote asap so we can get an idea how much to also quote for the job, i expeact to pay around 1500-1700, is that about right?

Start with your local insurance agent. Call them and ask them for a price quote on your business. Tell them your situation and see what happens. You may have to call a few people to find one that can do it. Not all insurance agents can do this type of work. Make sure you are honest with them. They cannot help you if you are not.

For a CGL policy this is probably about right (or a bit high). On the other hand, your WC premium is based on payroll. Tree trimmers are a high-risk occupation, making the rate significantly higher than, say, a clerical employee in an office.
