GETTING AN ESTIMATE

by SMARTAZZ9971 » Mon Jun 28, 2010 11:08 am

I was told that I have to get an estimate on the "DIMINISHED VALUE" of my vehicle due to it being in an accident in order for the insurance carrier to write me a check.

Since it is a brand new car, can I go to the dealer to get this done?

"New purchase price" - "trade in value" will always yield a big number, and is no indication of true diminished value. What you need is "trade in value without accident" - "trade in value after accident repaired" That will be a much smaller number, 2 seperate reports. I would suggest a professional appraisal (you will need to hire an appraisal service) making certain that there is a line item for the accident history. A dealership can only document recovery of new purchase price or trade in value.
