Can I get my insurance to pay for IVF?

My insurance policy states they cover diagnostics and treatment of underlying cause of infertility. It does not state anywhere that they do not cover IFV. I do not have fallopian tubes. Since the only treatment for this is IVF (fallopian tube transplants don't exist) can I get my insurance to cover some of this procedure?

My wife and I had this problem. No insurance company we could find would cover any tests and or procedures for IVF. The tests are more expensive than the procedures, at least in our case they were.

Individual health insurance may not cover such "preexisting" conditions. Many group policies do, in fact, pay for IVF and other fertility treatments. Have you contacted the insurance company and asked them what they do and do not cover? If it is not stated in the contract as an exclusion, it is probably covered. Additionally, the law of your state may not allow certain forms of infertility treatments or diagnostics to be excluded by a policy.

When "Obamacare" kicks in in 2014, if it does, we've been led to believe the insurance companies will not be able to "decline" persons based on their preexisting conditions. Nothing has, to my knowledge, ever been said about actually covering all such preexisting conditions.

I guess the premiums are more for such group policies. You should go through your state laws regarding this without a doubt.
