i was renting a houes in MD

i moved i a houes in MD the rent was $750 when i moved in i paid $2200 so i had 2 month of rent paid. i had a fire the first month in the houes i had grezs on the stove a i belived i turned it off and whent outside to smoke and when i came back in the stove a kithen was on fire. i been around 4 to 5 months and the landlord told me he cant rent to me because of the fire. can they do that or is the landlord not be trueful?

If the city has "red-tagged" the dwelling as a result of the fire and the damage has not been repaired, then no one can inhabit the dwelling.

Are you looking to get back your deposit or looking to move back in?

To the extent that the fire caused damage to the dwelling, your "deposit" is lost. Your landlord may have had fire insurance to protect his property, or maybe not.

If the landlord is refusing to rent to you because you previously caused damage to his property, that may be a violation of state or local law. Don't know where you are in Maryland, but you could probably check with the local housing authority for guidance in all these areas.
