I was involved in a hit and run accident a few weeks ago. Fortunately I was not injured. I only have PLPD on my vehicle (no collision). I was able to get the plate number of the vehicle that hit me but they do not have insurance (however, the vehicle is registered). My car was totaled. What can I do? I know Mi is a no-fault state. I'm pretty frustrated with the situation because I don't know what the police are doing about the fact that this person is driving around uninsured and I feel as though she is basically going to get away with this and I'm going to be SOL. I'd like to see this through to court but I'm not sure if it's worth it. Any advice?

I am sorry to hear about your ordeal, but happy to hear you were not hurt. Your story is not uncommon, even in those states that have tough enforcement laws for those that choose to drive uninsured. I would follow up with the police to see if they have contacted the owner of the vehicle. Also, contact the DMV and advise them of your situation. Depending on the amount of damages sustained, it may be more cost effective for you to pursue a small claims case. Once you receive a judgment on the driver, you should be able to file it with the DMV and have his/her license suspended.
