I was recieving Penna. unemployment in 2007 when I was injured. When it was done in July (26 weeks) I applied for SSDI which I recieved in Sept.2008. There were about 10 unemployment extensions while I was waiting for SSDI that I didn t recieve. I had to go on welfare. Was I entiled to recieve the extensions while I was waiting for SSDI? Doesn t seem right I paid into both programs all my life and lost all that unemployment money. I feel like I could have recieved the extensions while I was waiting for SSDI. From what Im reading its 50/50 if I could get the back unemployment money. Thanks MC

Well, mcoop, here's your dilemma.
To collect unemployment, a person has to be able to, and actively looking for, work. To collect Social Security Disability, one must be "unable to perform any substantial gainful activity".
So which was it? Able to work or not? If not able to work, you cannot collect unemployment insurance benefits.

I've paid tens of thousands of dollars for auto insurance just in the last 6 or 7 years, let alone all the years I've been driving since 1968. I've only had one traffic collision that was my fault, and the damage was less than $2500. Shouldn't I be entitled to a new car?
The concept that prevents this is known as "aleatory". We pay to receive the protection, but we do so knowing that we may never have a claim. Normally, we are not entitled to a refund if no claims are paid.
As for unemployment insurance, you have not paid a penny for that. It is paid for by your employer through payroll taxes. If anyone would be entitled to a refund, it would be your employer(s).

Auto insurance is not the same thing. Its not right to work all your life and pay into unemployment then have to go on welfare when the money is yours and sitting there. and no I can t work. I could maybe re train for a different job but I can t go to school and even try I will loose my SSDI. Laws need to be changed. Why should the state have to give me welfare when there is money there that I can get but i can t have it. NJ has a law for this why just NJ? Its called the injured while on unemployment law.
