an uninsured motorist made a left hand turn infront of my husband on his motorcycle and when he hit his brakes to avoid the accident his bike fell over on him and slid but never made contact with the other car. My insurance says uninsured does not come into play because there was no contact

Depends on the state...and how they address 'phantom' vehicles...some states require contact for uninsured motorist (BI) coverage to come into play some do not...apparently yours does..or your policy does. Ask your adjuster to send you the part of the policy or statute that specifically addresses this.

LORI...can you explain what you mean by 'phantom vehicle', please. From what I'm reading, there WAS a vehicle that the husband was trying to avoid hitting.

"Phantom vehicle" is just what it sounds like. If there was no collision between vehicle 1 and vehicle 2, how do we know that another vehicle was even involved?
Motorcycle riders can lose control of their bikes and fall over through no fault other than their own. Why would "uninsured motorist" be required to pay in that case?

OH..I catcha!! You're saying the vehicle may have been there, but, was NOT touched.

example...a 'phantom' (unknown) vehicle crosses the centerline, to avoid getting hit the insured takes a ditch, there is NEVER any contact between the insured vehicle and the phantom vehicle.
some states require that there be contact between the two some do not..(for uninsured motorist to apply)
My state does not require contact between a phantom vehicle and the insured vehicle for UMBI to apply...most I think do.

Ok...good explanation. I was driving, on the Interstate and this Big Rig started passing me. He started veering into MY lane. I hit the Medium (not hard, though..) in order not to make contact.
