Good tips, OP. ALOT of Insurance companies have pretty good discounts if you're planning to insure more than one vehicle. But, as you said, I think you need to look at the 'ratings' of the Insurance company you're interested in using.

Buying insurance online is so much easier than driving around to get quotes from several different insurance agents. There are sites out there that will collect quotes from multiple insurance providers for you!

Driving around town or surfing the Internet . . . hmmmmm, I guess no one uses a telephone anymore?
It's certainly easier to end up severely underinsured by failing to use an agent, and buying online on price alone.
And aside from that, the majority of people who purchase insurance (through an agent or not) fail to read their policies and understand their coverage. And in a few cases, they may actually end up insured by a company not admitted to do business in their state, and then when they have a problem following a claim, discover that no one -- like the Dept of Insurance -- is available to help them.
Then again, some people have paid money to persons they thought were agents, only to discover after having an accident that they had no insurance, since the "agent" took their money and used it for his own gain.
Agent -- no agent -- in the immortal Latin: caveat emptor.
