Background:
>On 7/1/10, a vehicle (A) was pushed by another vehicle (B) into our front yard (and our neighbors’) causing damage to our garden and fence (and seriously injuring driver A). Driver B fled the scene on foot and it is unclear if Driver B actually owns the car.
>The police report shows detail insurance information of A. For B, it shows the license plate #, a name, and an address (I assumed it's the vehicle B's onwer's name).
>When I called A’s insurance company State Farm, they told me it wasn’t A’s fault in the accident and it was determined that B should be responsible for the damage, but they couldn’t provide me with any detail information on B’s insurance other than that it is Allstate.
>I called Allstate to file claims against B but Allstate said they couldn’t locate a valid policy for the information provided on the police report.
> Since I don’t have any other clues, I tried to claim against my own home owner’s policy, but was told that 1) I would need to pay the deductible (which is higher than my estimated damage) and 2) this may cause my home insurance premium to go up for the next few years.
WHAT SHOULD I DO? Is there a way to get the real owner’s name based on license plate # (License plate # is the only real information I think because the name and address could be fake). Or it’s not worth the time and efforts since I estimated that my damage is about $500.
Any help/advices would be greatly appreciated.
