No forum for motorcycles, but I thought this would be a good place to ask, why should I carry Motorcycle insurance?

While a motorcycle itself typically does not do a lot of damage when it hits something, there are still many valid reasons to carry motorcycle insurance. Unfortunately, we live in a litigious society. So even in the event you only cause minimal damage in an accident, the exposure you have to a lawsuit is high. Motorcycle liability insurance will provide funds to cover legal defense in the event you are served with a lawsuit.

The likelihood a motorcycle driver and passenger will be hurt if the bike goes down is extremely high. When purchasing insurance for your motorcycle, be sure to ask about medical coverage for yourself as well as guest passenger liability.

Comprehensive and collision coverage will pay for the motorcycle to be repaired or replaced in the event of a covered loss.

While the posts above are full of reasonable information, none answer your question.

Why should you carry motorcycle insurance? If you ride a motorcycle, and you have a personal auto policy to cover you when you drive a car (believing it also covers you when riding the bike), if you actually read your policy, you might find the paragraph that says, "This policy does not cover losses resulting from any named insured's operation of a motor vehicle with LESS THAN FOUR WHEELS."

That's why you need motorcycle insurance. Without it, you have no coverage for any type of loss -- your own or that of others.
