If nothing else, you probably need to enroll in Medicare Part B within 3 months of turning age 65 to avoid the lifetime premium penalty that will attach, unless you are covered by an employer-sponsored plan, in which case you will have an 8-month "Special Enrollment Period" to apply for Medicare Part B to avoid the penalty. Part A is premium free at age 65 if you are "fully insured" (40 credits earned prior to age 65).

Medicare Advantage plans offer a very attractive alternative to "Original" Medicare, substituting HMO or PPO coverage for Parts A and B and the need for a Medicare Supplement and Prescription Drug Plan.

Why don't you just go online and request a quote? Most agents that would sell you a product are well-versed in the alternatives. Pick an agent that you believe is telling you the truth. Don't leave off your phone number. If you tell them where you are honestly, I bet you will find people that really want to help and know what they are talking about. You don't have to do business, your just in data-gathering/learning mode.

For what product? That's what the question is all about. The OP does not know what his/her options are, so where would they even begin to look?

I offered, and have not received a response.
