Insurance coverage lapsed no citations issue. what to exspec

I live in N. California and was involved in an accident. I made a left hand turn and was t-boned. My light was green and a yield to oncoming traffic. Sometimes the turn left signal goes gree first and then the two other lights to proceed forward turn green . I have seen all three of the lights turn green at the same time also. I drove a small BMW and he hit me squarely from the middle of the front fender well to the middle of the back fender well passenger side. No citations were issured by the police at the scene. Heres the kicker. I have been insured with the same company 2 or 3 years. My policy is written on a year to year basis. My payment was not received by the 26th of the month, my accident occured on the 2nd. I was told if the policy was still current and the payment was late they would have covered me but because they are written year to year they could not cover me. The policy was actually written I had new coverage cards but the payment was late. How much trouble should I exspect. Snce experts.

Depends... from your discretion I can't tell who was at fault. Seems to me that you made a left turn in front of the other person. It also seems to me that you are attempting to say that all the lights can be green so I'm betting you think the other person will say his light was green as well.

The other person will probably file a claim under his policy and his carrier will seek recovery from you. Since you did not have insurance at the time you will need to provide yourself a defense. The other carrier will probably turn it over to an attorney and/or collection company. They could file suit against you in District court. It's tough for a non-attorney to win in District court. They also probably have more money and time then you do. Or perhaps they will only send out some letters and forget the who thing.

Well, this statement of yours is not quite clear with me. Do you mean to say that you had applied for coverage by the time you faced this mishap? Applying for coverage and getting covered are two different things. So, you shouldn't mix up between this two.

It's a bit confusing over here. How can an insurer issue new cards when they haven't got the payment?
