when the insurance company claims my car as a total loss , does that mean that my car isnt drivable anymore? How can i get a salvage title for my car to continue using the vehicle. Do i need a paper from the insurance company or something stating i could keep the car as a salvage car. They wrote me a check for the total loss but the car is still drivable , its just cosmetic damge on the rear bumper?
My question is what are the steps to keeping my car and still usable in FLORIDA . . . since this claim is in VIRGINIA as a total loss. . .
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH

A total loss does not mean its not drivable... I've seen a dent in a 1/4 panel total out many vehicles. However, getting a vehicle registered with a salvage title is a different story. I'd see what the insurance company has to say about the vehicle and then call your local DMV to find out how they would handle the registration based on the title (salvage, non-rebuildable salvage, etc).
Oh,just read that a check was issued. So what did the insurance company tell you about the title? Are they going to send a letter to the state to inform them of the total loss? If not, then you'd probably not have an issue. There are no safety inspections in FL any longer.
