I am 28 01/27/1982 non smoker, 5 ft 6 155lbs. I am looking to start trying to have a baby with my current husband. we do not want to wait a year, but know it may take that long to get pregant. But just in case we get pregant the first time we try we need to be covered.

Well, you might just be able to sneak in under the Obamacare eradication of "preexisting condition exclusions", but it's not fully implemented yet.

Group health insurance generally covers pregnancy, but has always considered it a preexisting condition if the scheduled delivery date was within 10 months of the effective date of coverage. Individual health plans, for the most part, stopped covering maternity expenses as a benefit some time ago.

Some group plans are being "grandfathered" and the new rules will not apply to them for some time. Only a few may have already removed the preexisting condition exclusion for adults. The only preexisting condition exclusion that has currently been removed is for children under age 19.

Make sure you pay close attention to the questions in the application. A material misrepresentation is still grounds for recission. If a question asks, "Are you taking birth control medication?" and you answer YES, when the answer should be NO, and then suddenly turn up pregnant on the first attempt, you could find yourself tossed out on you ear. Legally.

Grandfathered? Can you describe this condition for me?
Also, I'm a bit curious to know the reason why the group plans are covering pregnancy when their individual counterparts can't.
