Who normally pays for CE credits and license renewal fees?

I have been working part-time for the past 3 years as a licensed CSR for an independant agent. I am currently making $12 per hour - no benefits. My P & C license is coming up for renewal soon & I still have some CE hours to complete. Should the agent be paying for these fees or does the CSR usually pay for them? Thanks...

Aside from the fact you should be making much more than $12 per hour, the payment of license and CE fees is entirely a discussion for you and your employer. Large agencies often pay those fees for their agents. Smaller, independent agencies may not.

If you are fully licensed, why are you not working as an agent on commission?

Yes completely agree with maxx, if you are licensed and you have some experience under your belt it is best to work on commission.

In my experience, and this is what I do for a living, CE is normally borne by the licensee. While we do have some corporate accounts that pay for their agent's CE and license renewal, it's been my experience that it's usually the problem of the licensed person in terms of costs, etc.

I also agree with Max- $12 an hour is OK for someone without a license, but I would be embarrassed to pay that wage to a licensed person. We paid our licensed CSRs between $16-18 an hour plus a percentage of the commissions we received on accounts assigned to the CSR. Oh, and we provided benefits.

Are you worried about just getting paid on commission?
