i did not have my insurance card with me.so he gave me a ticket and had my truck towed.can he do that .pearl,mississippi.

Mmmmmm, you are required by state law to have proof of insurance to operate a vehicle on public roads... you don't have proof of insurance and they won't allow you to simply leave vehicles on the side of the road or on other people's property so they have the legal right to tow it... and you want to know if this is legal? Happens all day, every day.

It's also "discretionary" on the part of the officer. Any chance you committed "contempt of cop"? With a good attitude, it might not happen. If you actually had insurance at the time, the court will dismiss the citation (perhaps attaching a nominal court fee -- $25 or $30). The towing and storage fees are all on you, though.

Well, I guess I'd agree with tcope. I think it's necessary to have proof of insurance with you all the time that you're on road and within your car.
