my insurance carrier terminated insurance coverage for myself and my daughter after accepting my payment. i had a 3,500 hospital bill go thru and a return of my payment 15 days later. Now i am left with a bill to pay out of pocket. can i take legal action?

Did they give you a reason for doing so? Such as "material misrepresentation".
If not, they have committed what is known as "postclaims underwriting" which is generally prohibited in all states for all reasons other than MATERIAL MISREPRESENTATION or FRAUD.
Contact your state's Dept of Insurance for immediate assistance.
