so i got a speeding ticket last month and it got dismissed. the judge said do not get another speeding ticket for 60 days. well i got another one but the officer said he would change it to a careless driving ticket but no points at all. should i do that?
will that also make my insurance go up even though it had no points included on the ticket.

It could increase you rates... depends on the insurance company. Was the initial citation "dismissed" because you attended driving classes? If not, you may want to see if these are available in your area. Usually the deal is if you complete the driving classes the insurance company cannot increase your rates. I don't know if this applies to a citation for careless driving.
On a side note... how much time do you think you save by driving an extra 10mph? In the city I'd say maybe a minute or two. On the highway, during a trip.... maybe a few minutes. So obviously driving _well_ over the speed limit is not really going to save you any time to speak of. It's really just a bad habit that serves no purpose (well, other then to cost you a _lot_ of money). My recommendation is to realize this. There is really no point in driving well over the speed limit.
Two speeding citations in 60 days should be proof enough that you have a _big_ problem.

Driving "well" over the speed limit could help our road racer to avoid a collision. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Definitely! I see no reason why it shouldn't affect the OP's insurance. I also see no reason for such risky driving. Once the OP gets into the category of a high-risk driver then his rates are bound to increase.

First off, a careless driving infraction is worse than a speeding ticket in terms of rate and premium increases unless it's a major speeding violation (typically 20 or more mph over the limit). The judge is going to look at a careless driving ticket and not think good things.
Secondly, a cop told you that a careless driving ticket would result in no points being added to your motor vehicle record? That is, simply put, absolutely ridiculous. It will absolutely add points, no question about it. The cop's an idiot.
Reminds me of the cops who tell people who get busted for drinking and driving that if the offender goes through the diversion course (first-time offenders only in most states) that it "wouldn't appear on your driving record" and "wouldn't affect your insurance rates."
Gimme a break... it absolutely does. Bottom line? Cops don't know anything about insurance premiums and what creates activity.
