Huh? I'm betting you misunderstood. I'm wondering if you never had the title/registration changed so your insurance company is looking for some type of proof that you bought the vehicle. I'm betting if you bought the vehicle from your cousin that the receipt you have is not very "official". The insurance company is probably looking for you to provide proof that you _paid_ your cousin... not where that money "came from". Why not simply do as is required by law and get the title changed over to your name? Of course, there might still be a problem with this as at the time of loss it sounds like the vehicle was still registered to your cousin.
