I'm under 65 and on Social Security Disability. Group coverage is under 20 employees and no one, not the agent nor Kaiser told me that the premium would be higher if I don't also opt in to Medicare Part B. I disclosed all on application

I didn't quite get the type of adjustment that you're talking about. I also don't think that Kaiser can change rules in order to accommodate 1 person.

Hi, I have a much more detailed question/description of what's happening in the forum. I applied to Kaiser in 2/08 as a dependent on my husband's group insurance. On the app, I stated that I was eligible for Medicare but was not covered (I had rejected Medicare because I was always covered elsewhere). They accepted the application, continuously covered me and our family at the given premium for over 2 years, when my husband changed jobs in 4/10 and we canceled the Kaiser coverage. Now, they just sent a bill to his prior employer asking for another more than $13,300. as a "retroactive" adjustment to the premium they had billed us for and we paid. Question is how can they decide now that because I opted out of Medicare, which I had made clear on the 2/08 app, that they should have charged me about $500 more each month that I was covered, and want me to pay the retro rate increase by 11/30/10? Do I have to pay them for their mistake of nearly 3 years ago? If they had quoted the much higher rate, I would have gladly opted in to Medicare and saved thousands!

Well, haven't they offered you an explanation of why they didn't charge this amount for all this while? I'm sure, while applying for the Kaiser coverage you didn't mention anywhere that you have Medicare in place? Or did you?

What is your age? You apparently have some sort of disability that qualifies you for Medicare, right? There must be more to this story than meets the eye.
