What does a letter of subrogation mean when my wife is still

My wife was in an accident about five months ago. Totally the other drivers fault - he was cited for three traffic violations and found guilty in court. My wife was injured and has been treating with three doctors and three therapists, with the medical people estimating at least a year more of care and the prospect of surgeries needed in the future.

Today we received a letter of subrogation from our insurance company saying that they are attempring to recover their costs from the other insurance company and that we shouldn't accept anything or sign anything from them.

Can you explain this to us? Why are they attempting to recover costs when we aren't even half way through treatment? We having stacking coverage on multiple policies and we haven't even used a third of the coverage and have yet to ask for mileage, expenses, or replacement services.

Who handled the damage to the vehicle and/or is their PIP or Med Pay in your states? It's probably one or both of these things.

I guess I don't know what Med Pay is. We live in a no fault state so our insurance paid for the vehicle (totalled) and is covering the medical expenses.

Unless you are in MI, no-fault only applies to injures and only to a certain extent. But none the less, your carrier is surrogating for what they have paid... at least the property damage.
