Accord and Hail damage

Hi everyone,

So our old 95 Accord was caught in a Hail storm over the summer and we are getting around to what to do with it. The car has about $2500 worth of repairs for the hail damage.

The car at this point is pretty beat up and need a new rack and the PS pump is leaking too. At this point my dad is driving it until something major fails. I looked at the value of the NADA trade it and the rough condition is $1,075 and average is about $1675. Ideally what we would like to do is take the money and invest it in the next car for my father.

Our insurance company's local adjuster called me today and like my mother's car wants to see it at the body shop under the black lights for the damages. Should I mention the trade in value and see if they want to scrap it, (my only fear is that he says that the insurance company will pay the entire repair) or should I be honest about the age of the car and and condition and that he can look at in our driveway? I know that it won't be what the shop estimate was but anything would be better then nothing.

I'd appreciate any help.

I'm betting they consider it a total loss. Even if not, take the repair money, junk the car and put the money toward another vehicle.

What should I do at this point though? Should I mention to the adjuster the trade in value of the car? I'm sure the body shop won't be pleased if they expect to go through the work and not get the repair. And then there is the off chance that they do repair it.

The adjuster will use a program that will warn him/her when their appraisal is at 80% or so if the value. This is what they will go by. Trade in value is of no concern to the adjuster.

Body shops go through this all day. It's part of their business. You can spit and hit 20 body shops so they don't mind the chance that it's a total loss.

You should wait until the adjuster inspects the vehicle.

So at this point should I just call the adjuster and tell him to schedule time with the dealership to have a look at the car and then wait until the check arrives?

Knowing the dealership I'm sure that they want to lure me in and schedule for the repair so what would be what I need to tell them?
