A salvaged vehicle refers to status of the vehicle on the title. A salvaged vehicle is a vehicle that has been severely damaged and/or deemed a total loss by the insurance company that paid the claim on the vehicle. The salvaged vehicle criterion differs from state to state. In a small number of states stolen vehicles have to be given a salvaged vehicle title; in most states it is issued only for losses due to damage.
