Why deductibles? To help you as an insured understand that the more you want the insurance company to pay on a claim the more you have to pay in premiums. It is intended to make you conscious of the cost of your health care and to encourage you to make good decisions about your care.

Deductibles are "cost-sharing" mechanisms. If you don't want to share, the insurance company will charge you the highest premium. The more you are willing to share, the less you'll pay in premiums.

True. We should never forget what an insurance coverage really means to us. Remember, that it's all about covering your risks and not a damage that's already there. More we're willing to share lesser risks we'd pose for the carrier, and the lesser we pay we add more to this risk potential.
