In Oct. 2008 I was in a car accident. I was driving a KIA spectra (30mph) and I rear-ended a company van. My car had to have some front work done. My insurance company took care of the claim back then. I had full coverage with this insurance company, but I am no longer with this same insurance company. Today, January 13, 2011, I was served with a summons stating that I was being sued for this car accident. The suit totals a little over 60,000. There is no way I can pay that money, I wouldn't even be able to afford a 5,000 suit. My question: is my previous car insurance company responsible for representing me in this case, and for the payout... or am I on my own.

It seems your damages were met out of your collision coverage...am I right?
The loss worth 60,000 should have been covered under your liability insurance. If you had claimed for it in the past (and achieved a settlement), then I don't see a reason why your carrier would even consider it now!
