I had cancelled my policy because of my car has not been drivable for a month now and cannot afford to fix it, so my question is: Can I have it backdated from the time my car has been inoperable? My insurance company was Progressive. Thanks in advance for any help.

I think Progressive will allow you to backdate a certain period of time. Whether or not you get a refund depends on how much you have paid and if you have paid enough to cover the earned premium. Call your agent or Progressive direct and request your desired cancellation date.
