Pain & Suffering Claim

I'm new to this forum and I am hoping someone can help me out!!! I was in a car accident over a year ago and am still dealing with the insurance company to get this taken care of.
First, some info on the accident. We were on the freeway where a previous accident had already occurred. The police were stopping all four lanes of traffic to allow those involved in that accident to cross the freeway safely. The vehicle I was in was at a complete or near complete stop when the vehicle one lane over and behind us (who was gawking at the accident) failed to stop swerved to avoid the car in front of him and rear-end us. We were on vacation and in a rental car so I am unsure of the exact damage totals, however, according to the insured’s insurance company it was about $1100 in damages to our rental car they refuse to say what the damages were to the insured car was.
I incurred whiplash, in my neck and upper back. Also, I have a pre-existing medical condition which is well documented in sever joint and muscle pain which was exacerbated by this injury. (I never had to have PT for the pain before) After the accident I endured 8 weeks, 2 times a week physical therapy which really helped.
Now the insurance company is saying that the damages to my rental vehicle do not substantiate my medical injuries or my days of missed work. They are only saying they will pay $3300, which pays half of my lost wages, my $2060 in medical bills and my pain and suffering is only worth $660.
I feel this is completely ridiculous. I want this issue resolve but I don't know what is reasonable. But to me this is inadequate.

Could anyone out there help me out???
