My contractor came over and to do a final walk through. In one conversation the contractor informs me that he has gotten the 2nd part of his payment on the 1st of Feb., this was the 25 of Feb. and I had no knowledge he was paid. Is my adjuster right?

Technically the amount would be owed to you and the mortgage company. That is, the adjuster could put those names on the check. Most people don't want to go through the hassle of getting their mortgage company to sign off on the check so many times the adjuster will pay the contractor and the insured directly (both their names on the check). Did you sign a direction of pay from the contractor? If so, this might also be why the adjuster paid the contractor. Was this the correct way of issuing the payment? Probably not.

The way it was paid seemed a bit confusing to me. But I'm not quite sure as to what would be the right way. Tcope, would you like to share more information regarding the correct way of issuing such payments?
