My insurance company wants to make the check out to me and the body shop can I ask them to make the check out to me What are the laws in connecticut

Only if there is no lien... which I suspect is not the case. If their is a lien your name and either the body shops name or your name and the lien holders name needs to be on the check. The bottom line is that they can always make the check payable to you and the lien holder... they are just trying to make life easier by putting the body shops name on the check instead of the lien holder.

They are required to protect the lien holders interest in the vehicle.
