Do you make more as a captive agent or an independent agent?

Do you make more as a captive agent or an independent agent?
i just got my p&c licence i work for allstate right now but theres many forms of insurance that they are not writing and i feel as if my commissions would be higher working as an independent agent for an insurance brokerage I live in NYC
