Insurance Rates increase in Missouri due to hail?

I live in Missouri, and one thing I cannot find looking through Google is if car insurance companies are legally restricted in raising my rates if I file a claim due to hail damage.

We just had a hailstorm. So I'm kind of concerned about this.

What is this "acts of god" stuff? Why is it that there are agents out there who are still under the impression that insurance policies specifically address "acts of god" that are defined as such? THEY DON'T!

What do you think a hurricane, a tornado, an earthquake, hail, lightning, etc. are? They are all ACTS OF GOD and are easily covered by an insurance contract. While certain "acts of god" need to be specifically endorsed onto a policy (like earthquake) or separate coverage needs to be purchased (flood insurance)... they can all be covered!

In terms of raising rates on Homeowner policies... that's really rare. Normally, if there are loss or other problems associated with a homeowner insurance policyholder- they'll non-renew the policy or make the policy subject to a higher deductible. You normally don't see rate increases on HO policies like you would on car insurance due to losses. There are some variations on this theme, but rarely.

BTW- the link shown in the previous post is broken. I found the article and it doesn't address this at all... thanks for the effort, though!

I doubt the state of Missouri prohibits raising rates on car insurance fro hail claims, but I'm not aware of any auto insurance company charging higher rates for comprehensive claims, which is the coverage that applies when your car is damaged by hail.

Auto insurance companies don’t usually raise premium rates because of hail damage, because it’s caused by natural phenomena and you can’t be held responsible for it.

Your premium rates generally get affected when you violate driving rules or get involved in an accident, which makes you a high risk factor for the insurer.
