The car (96 Honda Civic DX) has about 204K miles on it and was recently given a new catalytic converter, muffler, clutch and transmission. There was minor paint damage on both bumpers. I am the sole driver of the car ever.
I was hit by another driver and the repair estimate was close to $3K. The other driver's insurance company has deemed it a total loss as they said my car is worth $2500. I've seen my kind of car listed for $3500 locally, but am wondering if there's a way to find recently completed sales to figure a local average price for my car - I'm in Los Angeles.
The company initially offered me $1K (when they said my car was worth less) and now they're offering me $2K to settle. This is including the deduction of $500 for the salvage fee, which I'm assuming is figured as 20% of the ACV. Is that figured on the ACV prior to loss no matter how much damage is present? Shouldn't a % be taken on the ACV AFTER the damage?
