Did the insurance company perform a Independent Medical Evaluation and if so did the doctor conclude that your treatment was not related to the MVA? If this PIP or Medical Payment coverage that was addressing your injury under your auto policy? If so, about the only way a carrier should deny PIP/MP coverage is to have an IME done. Your health carrier can feel free to seek recovery from your auto carrier... but if your auto carrier is denying benefits then they are not going to pay your health carrier. You health carrier could file suit but this would probably cost them more then they would recover. But in either case it's easier for your health carrier to simply pass on the loss to all it's policy holders.
Award money... from who? Was this the liability carrier for the at fault party? You've left a lot of information out of your post.
