My father in-law who has terminal bone cancer and has been given a short time to live and was recently put in hospice and told he only had 2 weeks to live. He actually has made a great recovery and there is cause to believe that his wife and drug addict son were over-medicating him and trying to speed up his demise. No proof but wife and son have told numerous people they knew how to speed things along. Wife refused to take him home from hospice after he got better and he has taken refuge at our home(son and daughter-in law) and is doing so well that hospice is thinking of releasing him from their care.(Of course he is terminal but since coming to our home and getting proper care he isn't in immediate danger of dying as soon as everyone thought. We had his mailing address changed and he has an attorney and she has an attorney but today we received a letter addressed to him from an insurance company saying that his premium for his accidential death or dismemberment policy was due. It was a policy in his name(that he knew nothing about) the death benefit was for $20,000 and the wife was the beneficiary. He has called and cancelled the policy. But I thought that in the state of NC you couldn't get life insurance on another person without their consent or knowledge. She has had this policy on him since January 2005 and paid the premiums out of joint checking account that was kept from him. The wife and her daughter have written checks and signed his name to them without his knowledge for years. They don't have his power of attorney. His son has had his power of attorney -health care and financial power of attorney for years because she has told him she only married him for money and has told many people she expected him to die soon after they were married. He had just been diagnoised with prostrate cancer when she married him. Just wondering if she could be prosecuted for taking out life insurance policys without his knowledge and if there is anyway to find out how many more life insurance policys she may have on him. Thanks for any information you can provide.

This is clearly a fraudulent activity.

I guess you can take out policy on someone if you can prove your insurable interest, but I guess it's not possible without his knowledge. The insurance company will ask him questions regarding his health before issuing a policy.
