Eligibility of Green Card holder aged 65 to cancel US health

I am inquiring to see whether we are eligible to buy visitors
medical insurance and have looked at various websites which
all offer basically the same products. Situation is as follows
We are retired UK Citizens living in US with a green cards, obtained May 2009.
DoB May 29, 1946, wife DoB July 5, 1950.
Took out US health insurance with Golden Rule which ends June 1st, 2011
I will be back in UK May 20th to June 6th, 2011
I am unable to change from Golden Rule because of my age
and as we do not qualify for Medicare premiums have jumped 52%.
If I do not renew my Golden Rule policy can I take out visitors insurance
as I intend being in US for 2 more years maximum.
I know I cannot have visitors insurance if I am eligible for a US health policy
but am I allowed to make myself ineligible by not renewing existing policy?
Does my wife have to be treated separately as she is only 60.
