I lost everything in a fire. I am replacing items and turning in receipts to be reimbursed the total replacement cost. I bought a computer and turned in the receipt. I ended up returning the computer to the store because I found a different one I liked better. Do I need to inform the ins. co of this or will they find out that the item was returned when they evaluate the receipts? Do they actually call the merchant? I will still be able to get money back for the computer I ended up buying but I just don't want to delay the process. Should I just leave as is or inform them?

Honesty is always the best policy. After all, you pay the premium each month for your coverage. The money you are being reimbursed for your lost items is actually your money.

This is quite true that honesty is the best policy. It is indeed our money that comes back to us in the event our valuables are lost.
